Tour schedule – This is how your week will look

Day 1: Arrival in Iceland
We pick you up at 17:00 at the BSÍ bus station in Reykjavik and drive together to your accommodation at Grímsstaðir Country Guesthouse (approx. 1.5 hours). In the evening, we have a welcome dinner where we get to know each other and go through the program for your riding week. Accommodation: Grímsstaðir Guesthouse, shared rooms with shared bathroom.

Day 2: Getting to Know the Horses and First Riding Lessons (without the herd)
After breakfast, we drive to our farm Bakkakot. There, we saddle the horses and prepare everything for the tour. Today we ride without the herd to Stóra-Hof so that everyone can settle in and get comfortable with the horses. Afterwards, we return to our accommodation at Grímsstaðir. Accommodation: Grímsstaðir Guesthouse, shared rooms with shared bathroom.

Ride into the Highlands (with the herd)
From Stóra-Hof, we head into the highlands. We ride along ancient Viking trails past lava fields and vibrant purple lupines. Following gravel and grass paths, we reach our mountain cottage Foss, located on the banks of the Eystri-Rangá river, where we will stay for the next three nights. Day 4: Exploration Around the Mountain Cottage (without the herd, waterfall day)
Today we explore the area around our cottage on individual horses. The herd stays behind while we ride off-trail through the stunning landscape, passing mountains, lava fields, and rivers. We visit an abandoned farm and a man-made cave that was once used as a sheepfold. Later, we ride to the hills south of Foss, visit a waterfall, and enter a small cave called the “Thieves’ Cave.” Accommodation: Mountain cottage Foss

Day 5: Return to the Lowlands (approx. 35 km, with the herd)
Today we leave Foss and ride back to the lowlands. You will feel the excitement of the horses as they head home, and tölting on soft ground with mountains and glaciers all around is an unforgettable experience! After returning to Bakkakot, we enjoy coffee and cake before a shared dinner in the evening. Accommodation: Grímsstaðir Guesthouse, shared rooms with shared bathroom.

Day 6: Ride on the Black Sand Beach (with the herd)
Today we experience a special highlight: riding along the beach. In the morning, we ride along a river to Grímsstaðir, where we have lunch. In the afternoon, we continue to the beach, with the sea on one side and the stunning mountains, including Eyjafjallajökull, on the other. We tölt through dunes, cross tidal rivers, and may encounter curious seals and abundant birdlife. Accommodation: Grímsstaðir Guesthouse, shared rooms with shared bathroom. s

Day 7: Departure
After breakfast, the tour ends. We pick you up at 10:00 and drive back to Reykjavik, arriving around 12:00.
